Editing Basics

In this lesson you are going to watch a series of tutorials that will lead you through your first experience with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. If you finish early, take the time to watch some of the other tutorials that interest you and apply some of those techniques to your project. I recommend the Track Matte and Pro Mist tutorials as they would be fun to add to this project.

Assignment

Copy the files from the basic_edit DVD to your projects folder. Create a new Adobe Premiere Pro project inside your new folder. Import and edit the audio and video clips based on the tutorials. Create full screen, overlay and rolling titles and lay them into the project. Export both an .avi and a .wmv file. Copy the .avi file to the HTLC dropbox and the .wmv file to your HTLC usershare.

Tutorials

Setup (5:12)

In this tutorial you will learn how to set up a folder for your project and how to copy the assets you will need if you are doing the “Basic Edit” project. Then I will review the setting options you will be faced with when launching Adobe Premiere and how to save the project file into that folder you set up earlier.

Next you will learn how to use some extremely useful keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out of your project. Then I will show you how to use the Source Monitor to set in and out points before moving your clips to the timeline. Finally, I will discuss the difference between an insert and an overlay edit.
